Chances are the issue began with a lack of collaboration, communication, checkpoints, or a clearly agreed-upon process with enough detail. That’s content strategy gone wrong from the very start. Simply forswearing Lorem Ipsum wouldn’t have helped—it’s like telling a bad designer to just avoid bold text or italics. True enough, but it doesn’t solve the underlying problem. Even with mockups, approvals, tested code, and a chosen CMS, if the foundation isn’t solid, designs can still unravel and face criticism, much like the “villagers” chasing down a Frankenstein creation.
While some argue that Lorem Ipsum is a practice to abandon, the reality is that it’s only a symptom of deeper issues. Modern websites and publishing platforms rely on templating systems and CMS tools to manage massive amounts of content in varied formats and layouts. Designs can break or appear much different than expected when handling real-world data, no matter how polished the comps, wireframes, or mockups seem. Using realistic test content helps, but the only way to truly ensure accuracy is by running prototypes or beta sites with live data from the actual CMS. Until then, Lorem Ipsum itself isn’t the real villain—it’s just part of a bigger challenge.
